I’m trying rather frantically to get ready to leave the country for a month. I have not been away from home for a month since I was a child and went to camp. I thought I could get ready by Saturday afternoon, my plane being at 2pm. But late this afternoon I became confused…..was I suppose to leave for Spain or get to Spain on Saturday? Fortunately I discovered in time that I leave Friday at 2. Wow, ….would I have been disappointed if I had tried to go Saturday only to find I was 24 hours late! One less day to get ready but at least I’m going on the right day.
As I’m planning my trip to Spain I’ve needed to convert some things like distance so I’ll know how far it is say from Alicante to Barcelona in miles. I found this really cool website in the process for converting so I’ve added it to my links. Check it out. It converts anything your heart desires!
I don’t think this is Laura’s first birthday that she and I have spent apart, but it is certainly the first birthday that she has been this far away. She has already begun her summer study abroad in Spain (see lauragoestospain.com ) but in three weeks I will join her in Madrid. In the next three weeks she must learn to speak Spainish such that we can drive, eat and of course shop in Spain. For the second time Laura has convinced me to fly to a foreign country, rent a car and drive. At first glace this might not seem like much of a problem, but driving takes on a new dimention when a) you have to drive on the other side of the road or b) you can’t read any of the signs and c) you don’t understand the hand gestures other drivers are making in your direction. I understand that in Spain they drive on the same side of the road we do, and I have pledged to never again drive in England, so I think we’ll be OK as long as Laura can read the signs. We’ll see soon enough.
